Getting to interview Johnny Cash for The Winding Stream was one of the best things I’ve ever gotten to do as a filmmaker. He was gracious and kind to me and my crew and, at turns, gravely intense and then devilishly funny. It was a wonderful experience to meet a musical legend like him and see how profoundly he cherished his relationship with the Carter Family and June.
When I asked him how he viewed the Carter legacy in a world of saturated information and entertainment, he had this passionate response.
We are honored to be making a film that helps preserve the Carters’ memory. We think that’s what the Man in Black wanted and the reason he gave us this interview.
